Alexandria Junction Waiting Shed
The waiting shed called “Alexandria Junction” was a simple structure where passengers traveling between
the Bluemont Branch trains and the local accommodation trains to the Alexandria Terminal (Princess and Fairfax) would wait.
It was built by the Southern Railway after the 1894 connection was
established for trains to/from Washington.
It is often paired with another waiting shed called “WO&W Junction” which was located on the North-South
main line
as a waiting place for passengers from the Bluemont Branch
or the Alexandria Terminal to catch northbound/southbound trains. There was a third waiting shed
called "St. Elmo" that could accommodate passengers transfering between Bluemont Branch trains and a local electric railway.
